Saturday in Milwaukee

What happened in Milwaukee yesterday?

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A woman who stopped her car because of a flat tire was robbed of several thousand dollars at N. Prospect and E. Ogden avenues, Milwaukee police said.

The incident happened at 6:30 p.m., police said.

Prospect and Ogden?

That's not a crime-ridden area of the city. Anyway, I didn't think it was. I know it didn't used to be.

Here's more:

A 66-year-old woman thought she'd found a Good Samaritan Saturday night when her car got a flat tire and a man stopped to help. Instead, she was out several thousand dollars after he implied he had a weapon and demanded that she had over all the money she had on her, police say.

Police are looking for a black male, 25 to 35 years old, about 5-foot-10 inches tall, medium build, wearing a black skull cap and hooded parka with fur trim on the hood, according to Capt. Debra Davidoski.

The woman was on her way to make a night bank deposit for a medical service she works for, Davidoski said.

Robbing a 66-year-old woman -- What a tough guy!

Also from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
One person was shot this evening inside a house in the 4600 block of W. Woodale Ave., Brown Deer police reported.

Police said they received a call about the shooting about 7:40 p.m. but provided no other details.

A neighbor, Christine Gross, said she was taking her dog outside when two people came out of the house where the shooting occurred and told her to call 911. She said the victim's father also came out of the house and said his son had been shot.

Gross said she head no gunshots from the house, and news of the shooting came "like a bolt out of the blue."

A resident of the neighborhood for 18 years, Gross said a shooting in the area is a rare event. "We keep our bikes outside and nobody touches them," she noted.

WISN reports that the shooting victim is hospitalized.

620 WTMJ has no additional information to offer.

The shooting is under investigation.

This has to be a bit unnerving for Brown Deer residents.

Is crime spreading into their relatively safe haven?

There was another shooting last night, this one at 2nd and Keefe.

From 620 WTMJ:

A 19 year-old man is in the hospital in stable condition after he was shot outside a bar near 2nd and Keefe on Milwaukee's north side early Sunday morning.

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating whether the victim was in fact the intended target. So far no suspects are in custody.

Let's continue to look at the bar scene. There was more violence.

From TMJ4:

A 22-year old Greenfield man was taken to the hospital this morning following a stabbing. The stabbing reportedly happened outside a bar on Milwaukee's south side.

The victim does not have life threatening injuries. Police are looking for a known suspect. The men apparently were fighting over a woman.

And that's some of what happened on Saturday night in Milwaukee and its neighboring suburbs.

A couple more events:
A 19-year-old Milwaukee man was shot in the chest and leg at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the 3400 block of West Villard. The man was taken to Froedtert Memorial Hospital where he is expected to recover from his wounds, Capt. Debra Davidoski said. She said no information was available on the assailant or the motive for the shooting.

A 53-year-old Milwaukee man suffered severe spinal injuries after being beaten at about 1:50 a.m.outside the Brothers and Sisters tavern at 4106 W. Lisbon Ave. Davidoski said the man was in the tavern with family members when they got into an argument with another group inside the bar. The two groups continued the argument outside the tavern where a fight broke out.

The injured man, who appeared to have suffered some paralysis, was taken to Froedtert hospital, Davidoski said.
