Guardian Angels in Milwaukee

Guardian Angels from Green Bay and Chicago are on Milwaukee's south side streets this weekend.

Alderman Tony Zielinski has worked to establish a chapter in Milwaukee.

I fully support that.

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee's "Guardian Angels" will begin patrolling this weekend in the same neighborhood where two police officers were recently shot.

This is the third attempt at establishing the volunteer patrol group’s Milwaukee chapter. Neighborhood organizers said that in the wake of the recent violence, they are hoping this time the group will stay.

The mission of the Guardian Angels is to walk around troubled neighborhoods and help neighbors stop crimes before they start.

“We’re not here as a threat,” member Willie Brooks said. “We’re here to help them in their communities. We’re here to offer an alternative.”

This isn't that different from Neighborhood Block Watch programs.

I don't see why anyone, other than thugs, would have a problem with the Guardian Angels or feel threatened by them.

Crime on the near south side is spreading farther south and southwest.

A quick glance at COMPASS shows the disturbing trends.
