"Rare" West Allis Carjacking

Don't be alarmed.

This is rare.

From The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

West Allis police are seeking two suspects who pointed a gun at a man in a grocery store parking lot yesterday and stole his vehicle.

The carjacking occurred about 1:50 p.m. at Pick 'n' Save, 6760 W. National Ave.

Police said the suspects approached the victim, 46, pointed a handgun and fled in the 1992 Buick LeSabre.

The gray vehicle, with Wisconsin license plate number 646 MCV, was last seen eastbound on Greenfield Ave. Police said such events are rare in the city and they have no reports of any similar occurrences recently.

In broad daylight, in a grocery store parking lot, two people steal a man's car at gunpoint.

Who cares if it's a "rare" occurrence?

Relatively speaking, rape and murder are "rare" occurrences; but that doesn't make them less worrisome.

Getting struck by lightening isn't an everyday thing, but it's still not a good idea to play golf or stand under a tree during an electrical storm.

Residents and shoppers in that area have to be a bit concerned. I would be.

It's interesting that the police and/or JS Online provide the public with a description of the stolen vehicle but offer NO details on the suspects.

Why be afraid to give some specifics?

Were they male or female?

Were they wearing masks?

What did they look like?

(UPDATE-- A report on FOX 6 supplies a little more information. The suspects are two black males.)

Although carjackings are unusual in the area, anytime there's a crime like that there's an impact.

It spreads fear.

Obviously, I have no idea where the suspects live. They could be from West Allis or Waukesha or Milwaukee or anywhere.

Crime in Milwaukee doesn't necessarily stay in Milwaukee.

As long as there are thugs somewhere, law-abiding people everywhere have reason to be concerned.

Speaking of thugs, two people were shot last night in Milwaukee.

Police are still seeking suspects in each case, the first one coming about 11:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of W. Appleton Ave. There, a 24-year-old man was shot outside. He is in stable condition today.

The second victim, 31, is also in stable condition after being wounded about midnight outside in the 2700 block of W. Elder Wallace Drive, formerly known as W. Hadley St., according to Milwaukee police.

On Monday, there were also two shootings in Milwaukee.

The latest shooting occurred at 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 3200 block of N. 15th St.

An 18-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound while walking down the street. He is in stable condition.

In an earlier shooting on Monday, a 22-year-old man was wounded in the 3200 block of N. 24th Place about 10:30 a.m.

Saturday night into Sunday, there were five shootings on Milwaukee's streets.

So since 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, there have been at least nine shootings in Milwaukee.

Do shootings in Milwaukee qualify as "rare"?
