Whoopi Goldberg tells Elisabeth Hasselbeck that she isn't capable of understanding why blacks are voting for Barack Obama solely because of his skin color.

The problem: Hasselbeck is white.

HASSELBECK: I'm not against the idea [of a black being elected president]. I'm against the idea of not looking beyond the things which have prevented them from being in office. We need to step away from that a little bit and look at the entire picture. That's all I'm saying.

GOLDBERG: That's a very... and I say this with a huge amount of love... it's a very white way to look at it.

HASSELBECK: What do you mean?

GOLDBERG: I'm saying this with love so understand.

HASSELBECK: Let me take off my white goggles.

GOLDBERG: But you can't. That's what I'm trying to explain. This for us is total... It's not an experience I can explain to you. I can't explain why black folks are saying, "Oh my God."

I think Goldberg..., and I say this with a huge amount of love... That's a very black way to look at it.

If it's racist for whites to vote for a candidate based solely on that individual's skin color, then it's also racist for blacks to vote for a candidate for that reason.

There is an obvious double standard at play. It comes up again and again.

Whites are racist when they don't vote for Obama; but blacks inexplicably aren't labeled racist when they overwhelmingly vote for him instead of Hillary Clinton.

We each have one vote. We can use it any way we'd like. We can vote for a candidate for any reason.

When blacks vote for Obama only because of his blackness, it's racist. It's their choice. They can choose to vote in a racist manner, but it is racist.

His supporters and Obama himself insist that his campaign has generated such excitement because he transcends race.

That's not true. Obama is not really trascendent at all.

Whatever is politically expedient for him is what goes. Obama is definitely politics as usual. Change? I don't see any change.

Actually, the candidacies of Obama, Hillary, and John McCain reflect some steps backward for the nation if people are voting based on the candidates skin tone.

Joy Behar Bashes Catholic Saints

It appears that Joy Behar is taking over where Rosie O'Donnell left off on The View. Behar is stirring up plenty of controversy.

The latest: Catholics were mercilessly bashed AGAIN.

On January 9, 2008, the saints of the Catholic Church were in Joy Behar's crosshairs.

According to "View" co-host Joy Behar, those sainted by the Catholic Church are no more than mentally ill individuals who heard voices. On the January 9 edition of "The View" Behar, who considers prayer a "distraction," suggested that there are no longer any saints due to modern medicine.

JOY BEHAR: I’m going to get in trouble for this, but you know what? I have a theory that you can’t find any saints any more because of psycho-tropic medication. I think that the old days the saints were hearing voices and they didn’t have any thorazine to calm them down. ELISABETH HASSELBECK: I don’t think so, Mother Teresa.

BEHAR: That’s why Mother Teresa had issues. Let’s not forget, she didn’t really believe 100 percent like these saints who were hearing voices. She didn’t hear voices. So the Church said "okay, she does good deeds. Let’s make her a saint." In the old days it used to be you heard voices. They can’t do that anymore.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: They’d cut your hair off. They’d set you on fire. Don’t forget what they did to Joan of Arc.

BEHAR: Because she was hearing voices.

GOLDBERG: They set her on fire. That’s why people stopped saying anything.

BEHAR: Well it was- no, no, no, in the last century before you had medication, they still were hearing voices. I’m telling you.

Behar wasn't kidding.

The View's audience of sickos laughed, but it was no joke. She meant it.

According to Behar, the saints of the Catholic Church were mentally ill, and there are no modern day saints.

Behar has the right to believe that. She can think whatever she wants.

I have the right to believe that she is wrong about the saints. I think she's intolerant and a bigot.

Back Off, Whoopi

Sometimes, I really wonder why Elisabeth Hasselbeck doesn't quit.

I don't know how she manages to wake up, drag herself to work, and face her colleagues on The View.

I couldn't do it. I wouldn't do it.

Tuesday, Hasselbeck had to put up with Nancy Pelosi and 78-year-old Barbara Walters talking about Whoopi Goldberg wanting to "do" Paul Newman and Pelosi's husband Paul. Goldberg volunteered that she'd also like to "do" Madame Speaker.

That's nauseating.

On Wednesday, Hasselbeck was subjected to worse than that disgusting drivel. During a discussion about Hillary's idea to give every baby born in the U.S. $5000, she had to hear Whoopi Goldberg pontificate about abortion, as the rest of The View ladies and the audience cheered.

HASSELBECK: I was very- at heart, I’m very against this policy because I believe it’s more of a gift.

BEHAR: Are you against Social Security, too?

HASSELBECK: No. Against this policy, but then I realized that there is a benefit because I feel like this could maybe cause less abortions in the world. You know, people would keep having kids instead.

GOLDBERG: Elisabeth, Elisabeth, can I ask you one question–can I ask you a question? I just have to ask you this question since you opened this door.

HASSELBECK: Sure.

GOLDBERG: Have you ever been in a position to have to make that decision?

HASSELBECK: Never, never.

GOLDBERG: Okay, then back off a little bit. Back off a little bit. Very few people want to have abortions.

HASSELBECK: I’m sure they don’t.

GOLDBERG: See, I was listening.

HASSELBECK: I was just affirming what you said.

GOLDBERG: Most people do not want to have abortions. Most women do not have them with some sort of party going on. It is the hardest decision that a woman ever- wait- ever has to make. So, when you talk about it, a little bit of reverence to the women out there who have had to make this horrible decision. And one of the reasons that, that we have had to make this decision is because so many women were found bleeding, dead, with hangers in their bodies because they were doing it themselves. The idea of this was to make it safe and clean. That was the reason the law came into effect. That was why it was done.

Women who are so desperate that they resort to killing their babies deserve compassion and prayers, but they don't deserve reverence.

They aren't heroines. They aren't courageous. They aren't brave.

Choosing to end the life of one's baby isn't an act to be revered. Not at all.

On Thursday, The View continued on its especially controversial streak. The ladies took to slamming the Catholic Church. I wasn't impressed with Hasselbeck.

The View crew doesn’t seem to think anyone should be refused communion – even if by rejecting Catholic teachings, politicians like Giuliani and John Kerry are clearly not communing with the faith of their youth.

As a life-long practicing Catholic, I've known many priests. Not all would take Archbishop Burke's approach.

Whether or not Giuliani or Kerry or anyone should receive Communion is not up to me. I'm not commenting on that.

What bothers me is the way it was open season on Catholics on Thursday's show.

GOLDBERG: Yes, holy communion, you know what holy communion is. For the Catholic Church, you go in on Sunday, you've confessed everything on Friday or Saturday, you're clear, they give you the host, they say you're cool.

BEHAR: Then you get drunk and go out and have fun.

That's not cool.

GOLDBERG: It's very strange that when, when the Catholic God, you know, because there are so many different gods. I'll refer to the Catholic God at the moment. It seems that the Catholic God always says judge lest ye be judged. And always says if I-

BEHAR: They always say that.

GOLDBERG: If you come to me, I'm the only one who can forgive you. It doesn’t matter what everyone else says. And yet a priest, the mouthpiece to God, would say you can't --

BEHAR: There are amendments. Unless you do this. Unless you do that. (hand gesturing)

SHEPHERD: The priest has absolute say, because I don't know about Catholicism –

BEHAR: No the Pope does.

SHEPHERD: The Pope, okay.

HASSELBECK: No, the Pope does. The bishops are an extension of his, his abilities to say yeah or nay to certain things. There are a lot of rules in the Catholic, you know, Church.

GOLDBERG: I just find it very interesting that, that, you know, it's like closing churches. I don't understand people who close churches because there’s so many, you know, folks that go to church. You know, it’s really a big deal for a lot of people. How can you live at the Vatican and say we have to close these churches because there's not enough money when we could, like, sell some stuff?

BEHAR: Well, the Catholic Church is, is in debt now for paying off a lot of the pedophile cases and they have to close all these churches.

GOLDBERG: There's a lot of stuff they could be selling.

HASSELBECK: And they were handing out communion to all those men who were molesting all the boys out there and they didn’t have a problem giving them communion.

BEHAR: We were all raised Catholic here, so this is not some anti-Catholic rant that we're on. This is just factual information.

GOLDBERG: No, I’m a little bit on a rant. No you’re right.

BEHAR: You can rant. But I was raised -- I had communion every Sunday. I received my communion, my confirmation, all nine yards. My daughter’s been baptized, just in case, you know?

GOLDBERG: You are so funny.

BEHAR: And so this is just- these are facts about the Church right now that people have to either live with or reject.

HASSELBECK: That's one area. That's the Catholic Church. There are many other divisions of Christianity.

SHEPHERD: If you’re a Christian, you can do communion if you sin.

GOLDBERG: Not in the Catholic Church.

How low will The View go?

I thought after Rosie O'Donnell had performed her hissy fit swan song and permanently left the show that Barbara Walters would rein things in a bit and restore some order.

Far from it.

Mary Ann Akers writes about Nancy Pelosi's appearance on The View Tuesday. Pelosi's husband Paul had the misfortune of being in the audience.

[T]he welcome House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got today on ABC's chick TV show "The View" was more than warm - it was downright steamy.

Even before Pelosi walked on stage to take her seat at the round table, the show's moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, and its co-hosts - with former news anchor Barbara Walters leading the pack - started flirting with the speaker's husband, Paul, who was seated in the front row.

"You wanna take a look at Nancy Pelosi's handsome husband?" Walters asked the audience. Yes, came the answer in the form of whooping and hollering.

Poor guy was actually blushing.

...Whoopi got the pleasure of introducing Speaker Pelosi....

But Walters was still stuck on Mr. Pelosi, unfortunately for Mr. Pelosi. And this is where a little blushing turned to a Code Red alert, four-alarm fire.

Trying to shout over Whoopi and her other gabbing co-hosts and excited audience members, Barbara turned to Guest Pelosi and said she has heard Whoopi say before that she'd "do Paul Newman."

"And I think she'd like to do your husband as well," Walters deadpanned in that quintessential accent that made her the subject of late-night lampooning over the decades.

What is with Barbara Walters?

Goldberg said she'd "do Paul Newman." I don't know why Walters saw fit to bring that up. Still, that was nothing. What followed was hard to believe.

With a shocking degree of crassness, Walters says to Pelosi, "And I think she'd like to do your husband as well."

That would be offensive under any circumstances. It's even more disturbing that Walters would talk that way on national TV to Speaker of the House Pelosi, with her husband sitting right there.

What has happened to Walters?

She was a pioneer in the field of journalism, blazing the trail for women.

She's interviewed incredible people -- Anwar Sadat, Menachem Begin, and Fidel Castro to name a few.

Yes, Walters has always been a bit of a nut, but she usually maintained some semblance of dignity. When she's on The View, however, she seems to unleash her inner sleaze. Yuck! It makes me cringe.

At 78, I don't know why she's choosing to spend the twilight of her career destroying her place in broadcast journalism history with such garbage.

Rather than ignore Walters' extremely inappropriate comments, Goldberg builds on them.

...Yes, Whoopi implicitly acknowledged, she'd like to do Mr. Pelosi - but she might take his wife while she's at it. "I would do her as well. But we should wait on that because you're still in office, I don't want to cause a problem."

Even assuming that this was just meant to be humorous, that doesn't excuse the level of discourse.

And while Goldberg certainly is responsible for her comments, it was the supposedly refined, professional Walters who initiated the conversation.

What an embarrassment!

Such a complete lack of decorum!

Pelosi and her husband were shown The View from the gutter.

Very inappropriate.

If Pelosi can just laugh off such disrespectful treatment, then there's more wrong with her than I suspected.

And we're giving them the space that they do need for that political change that is happening. In my mind, and I'm sure many others, that it a success."

Pelosi shot back, with loud applause from the audience, "Elisabeth, if I may, with all due respect, there's still a lot people dying."

Our Long National Nightmare is Over

Rosie O'Donnell's stormy days at The View are history.

NEW YORK -- Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at `The View.' ABC said Friday she won't be back on the show following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday.

O'Donnell asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract. She was due to leave "The View" in mid-June.

Thank you, ABC!

She's a hero. She bravely faced off against O'Donnell and she won.

"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" show creator Barbara Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."

I don't understand why Barbara Walters has debased herself by carrying water for O'Donnell.

Walters' credibility is in tatters. She tossed her reputation out the window when she got in bed with O'Donnell. Walters won't be remembered for her interviews with world leaders.

O'Donnell's shadow will dwarf those of Anwar Sadat and Fidel Castro.

Walters sold out. One of broadcasting's pioneer women traded her dignity for ratings. Too bad.

In a statement, O'Donnell said she was grateful. "It's been an amazing year and I love all three women."

Presumably, that includes Hasselbeck. The two exchanged bitter words on Wednesday over O'Donnell's opposition to the war in Iraq. They've frequently had snippy political exchanges during O'Donnell's year on the daytime chatfest, but never as long and loud as that one.

Actually, I feel sorry for O'Donnell.

As irresponsible, ugly, and false that her words are, I pity her. She really seems unstable.

O'Donnell is a pathetic figure.

I sincerely hope she gets the help she needs.

The question:

Did Rosie O'Donnell call our troops in Iraq terrorists?

O'Donnell is horrified at the suggestion. It caused her to go off on Elisabeth Hasselbeck for not being willing to assist in her CYA effort.

We all know about their feud and the implosion of The View.

But did O'Donnell call our troops terrorists?

Here's a portion of the transcript from the May 17 show:

O’DONNELL: …… I just want to say something. 655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?

HASSELBECK: Who are the terrorists?

O’DONNELL: 655,000 Iraqis — I’m saying you have to look, we invaded –

HASSELBECK: Wait, who are you calling terrorists now? Americans?

O’DONNELL: I’m saying if you were in Iraq, and the other country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?

HASSELBECK: Are we killing their citizens or are their people also killing their citizens?

O’DONNELL: We’re invading a sovereign nation, occupying a country against the U.N.

On O'Donnell's blog, "Shelly" writes a post arguing that O'Donnell most definitely did not call the troops terrorists.

I don't know who Shelly is. I'm guessing it might be Bill Clinton using "Shelly" as his nom de plume.

Shelly's parsing of O'Donnell's words rises to the level of Bill's "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."

Shelly writes:

Rosie does not mention the troops at all in that segment of the show. She poses a rhetorical question. “Who are the terrorists?” “I’m saying if you were in Iraq, and the other country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?”In both of her rhetorical questions she refers to the “United States” and “us.” The policy of the United States or “our” policy in Iraq is not the responsibility of the soldiers who are ordered to execute the policy. It is obvious that state supported terrorism can only be implemented by those who have the responsibility of doing the fighting and dying. But, it is not the soldiers who are the terrorists in that hypothetical. And she was not calling the soldiers terrorists.

In other words, O'Donnell wouldn't spit on our troops, the baby killers, because they are merely fulfilling their duty by acting as terrorists in the name of the United States.

O'Donnell would jump at the chance of spitting on the U.S. policymakers, because they are the real terrorists.

Shelly argues that O'Donnell was saying that America engages in "state supported terrorism." She didn't actually accuse the troops of being terrorists.

O'Donnell agrees with Shelly's analysis, writing, "THANK GOD 4 SHELLY" at the end of the post.

In my opinion, Shelly's argument is very weak. It's semantics.

Look at the spirit of O'Donnell's comments. She clearly is equating U.S. policy with terrorism, terrorism of the sort we saw on September 11, 2001.

Are we to believe that O'Donnell considers our troops, the ones carrying out the supposed terrorist policies of the U.S., to be guiltless?

To believe that, we must accept that our troops are mindless beings, capable of behaving like terrorists without being burdened by any pangs of conscience.

Even if you're willing to swallow O'Donnell's defense, you have to admit that at the very least, she is insulting the troops.

Let's pose this question:

Does O'Donnell charge the U.S. government with using the U.S. military to carry out its policies of state-sponsored terrorism to kill 655,000 Iraqis?

Absolutely, unequivocally YES.

Rosie O'Donnell is making the most of her final days on The View's soapbox.

Her ugliness is getting even uglier.

NEW YORK --Watching Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck squabble on ABC's "The View" is nothing new, but Wednesday's dustup seemed particularly nasty with the co-hosts trading accusations and personal digs.

A political discussion over the war in Iraq became heated when an angry O'Donnell decried Hasselbeck for not standing up for her when media outlets suggested that she'd called U.S. troops "terrorists" during a previous debate.

"What you did was not defend me. ... I asked you if you believed what the Republican pundits were saying — you said nothing, and that's cowardly," O'Donnell said.

Responded a stern Hasselbeck: "Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe."

O'Donnell and Hasselbeck were shown on a split screen as the argument progressed without commercial interruption.

"Do you believe that I think our troops are terrorists? And you would not even look me in the face, Elisabeth, and say, `No, Rosie,'" O'Donnell said.

Responded Hasselbeck: "Because you are an adult, and I am certainly not going to be the person for you to explain your thoughts. They're your thoughts! Defend your own insinuations!"

O'Donnell, who is leaving the ABC daytime talk show next month, said she wasn't going to fight anymore. "So for three weeks, you can say all the Republican crap you want."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck must be counting the days until she can go to work and not have to face O'Donnell and put up with her rants.

I do believe that it defies physics for the World Trade Center Tower Seven, building seven, which collapsed in on itself, it is impossible for a building to fall the way it fell without explosives being involved, World Trade Center Seven. World Trade Center one and Two got hit by planes. Seven, miraculously, for the first time in history, steel was melted by fire. It is physically impossible.

HASSELBECK: And who do you think is responsible for that?

O’DONNELL: I have no idea. But to say that we don't know it was imploded, that there was implosion in the demolition, is beyond ignorant. Look at the film. Get a physics expert here from Yale, from Harvard. Pick the school. It defies reason.

O'Donnell didn't have the guts to pin the blame for what she believes was the planned implosion of the WTC on President Bush, the way former UW-Madison Kevin Barrett does.

But, without question, she doesn't blame terrorists. She's convinced that it was an inside job of some sort.

Rosie O'Donnell and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed

I am officially calling for Rosie O'Donnell to apologize for her vile anti-American remarks.

I think O'Donnell is trying to be this generation's Jane Fonda.

I wonder how Daniel Pearl's widow, his child that he never lived to see, and the rest of his family and friends feel about O'Donnell standing up for the man claiming personal responsibility for beheading Pearl.

O'Donnell has the right to believe and to say anything that she wants.

Free speech. God bless America.

She's a terrorist sympathizer.

We know that. Her comments about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed on today's The View are completely in line with things that she's said about terrorists and the U.S.in the past.

I don't know why advertisers are sticking with the show.

Ann Coulter is a harmless kitten compared to O'Donnell.

O’DONNELL: Why, since March 2003 has he not admitted it until now?

I think it's time for local affiliates to consider dropping The View.

It's time for advertisers to think twice before buying commercial time on the show.

It's time for people to exercise their civil liberties and let ABC know what they think of Rosie O'Donnell.
