My Lunch with Bono

Respect is so important.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In town for a concert, U2 rock star Bono was invited to lunch Wednesday with the president. White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the meeting at the executive residence would be a follow-up on talks he had with President Bush in July at the G-8 summit in Scotland.

"They had a very good discussion about some of our common priorities," McClellan said. "Both share a deep commitment to combating AIDS, preventing malaria and expanding trade to lift people out of poverty."

McClellan said Bono also planned to meet with National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley later in the day, before U2's concert at the MCI Center. The spokesman laughingly told reporters that Bush was not planning to attend the concert.

Wow.

Since U2 is in DC for a concert, Bono was invited to have lunch with President Bush at the White House.

Bono didn't have to camp out in a ditch for a month, get in bed with the fringe radical Left, and whip the media into a frenzy to get the President's attention. I guess respect goes a long way.

NAACP take note.

Like the President, Bono is committed to working to alleviate the suffering in Africa. However, despite their shared goals, I doubt Bono would have received a lunch invitation if he had said what Cindy Sheehan did, "The biggest terrorist is George W. Bush."

The radical Left extremists don't get it. Bono does.

I think it's funny that McClellan laughed when telling reporters that Bush had no plans to attend the concert tonight. If the President did plan to go, the mainstream media would probably bitch and moan that he had no business being off at a concert while there's a war going on in Iraq.

Interestingly, Hillary Clinton WILL be at U2's show.

On October 12, AFP reported:

Senator Clinton has "invited" 18 people to join her on October 19 in a luxury suite at Washington's MCI Center to see U2 play during their sold-out Vertigo tour, as long as they contribute 2,500 dollars to the Democratic Party.

U2 is not happy about that. From the same AFP report:

Rock giants U2 have expressed outrage that US politicians from both main parties, including Hillary Clinton, are using their concerts to fill campaign coffers.

"The U2 concerts are categorically not fundraisers for any politician. They are rock concerts for U2 fans," a statement from the group's publicist said.

Do you think Bono will give Hillary and her gang of 18 any recognition at tonight's concert? You know, some sort of special nod to the luxury suite being used as a Dem fund-raising booth.

Do you think he might dedicate a song to the Senator and her "guests"?

"Do You Feel Loved" would be a good one.
