After five weeks, there is still no word on American hostage Jeffrey Ake, father of four and CEO of Equipment Express in Rolling Prairie. The family is abiding by the FBI's suggestion that they remain silent.
Although Jeffrey Ake's story is non-existent in the national media, his community continues to show support for his loved ones.
Residents await word on fate of LaPortean
The LaPorte Chamber of Commerce is asking people to continue placing red, white and blue ribbons on their tree trunks to show support for the family of kidnapped businessman and LaPorte resident Jeff Ake.
Ake, who is president and chief executive officer of Equipment Express in Rolling Prairie, is believed to have been kidnapped April 11th, while working on a water treatment plant near Baghdad. Ake's friends and business associates said the father of four was in Iraq to help with postwar reconstruction by installing water bottling equipment.
Equipment Express, in nearby Rolling Prairie, makes machines that fill and cap water bottles. Ake started the company in 1995 out of his garage after working 17 years for a company once owned by his father.
LaPorte Police Chief David Gariepy said family members were following the FBI's advice in not commenting. He asked the community to "hope and pray and wait."
