Steven Christofferson

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
A Wisconsin soldier has died in Iraq, a family member said today.

Details remained sketchy about the death of Steven Christofferson, 20, of Cudahy. His aunt, Monique Nimphius, confirmed for The Associated Press that Christofferson had died but she directed questions for additional information to Steven's mother, Michelle Christofferson, who was busy speaking with members of the military.

Christofferson was a 2006 graduate of Cudahy High School, where he played football, wrestled and ran track, Principal Chris Haeger said.

"He was a very cordial, approachable kid. He was very, very excited about the military, about the idea of committing himself to his country," Haeger recalled. "It's just really hard. It's a very somber day at the high school."

I'm in awe of Steven Christofferson's courage and devotion to his country.

The young men and women volunteering to serve in the military during a time of war are truly patriots. Their selflessness is inspiring.

My prayers go out to Steven's family and friends.
