Authorities in Kenosha say a slow-moving pickup truck attracted the attention of a sheriff's deputy who pulled the vehicle over and found an alleged human smuggler at the wheel and seven other illegal immigrants with him.
A Kenosha County Sheriff's Department report says the driver and three passengers were in the cab of the pickup and four others were covered by blankets in the bed of the truck, which had Arizona license plates.
The passengers told the deputy when stopped on Interstate 94 Sunday that they believed they were "going to Wisconsin for a fiesta."
Deputies found soda cans and food along with pillows and blankets in the truck's cargo area where four men had been riding.
The 26-year-old driver was held on suspicion of being a smuggler of people. The others were put on immigration holds, including a 15-year-old boy with his uncle.
I know Governor Doyle wants to put out the welcome mat for ILLEGAL immigrants, but I didn't realize Wisconsin has become so desirable that it's considered the site of a fiesta.
Maybe Doyle can find a spare room at the governor's mansion for the eight ILLEGAL immigrants. Give them free health care. Give that 15-year-old boy in-state tuition for a college education.
Do people typically go to a fiesta covered with blankets?
Was it a surprise party?
