Leno Goosed by Bush

UPDATE, January 22, 2008: Leno RETELLS the "goose" story he never told.

When I heard that Matt Lauer would be Jay Leno's guest on Tuesday's Tonight Show, I suspected that there would be negative remarks made about President Bush.

I was right.

Lauer talked about an interview he did with Bush marking the fifth anniversary of 9/11. He said that when the discussion turned to methods of "torture" employed by the U.S., Bush started to "poke" him in the chest.

Lauer joked that he wanted to revert to high school tactics and shove him back. Instead, he managed to control himself and maintain his composure, but he was ticked off that Bush had invaded his personal space.

Watch some of the
Bush-Lauer interview.

It's not what I would call a brawl. Maybe in Lauer's world.

That wasn't the strangest story of Lauer's segment. Leno contributed the really weird stuff.

Leno said that when he was at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and walking to the podium, President Bush "goosed" him.

Leno claims that Bush had to be the guilty party, even though he sat there as if nothing had happened.

Lauer suggested that maybe Mrs. Bush was the one responsible for the "goosing," a classless remark.

(I think Lauer is copying Steve Kagen's style of insulting Laura.)

Leno insisted that it had to be the President and he was creeped out by the incident. He said he never told the story before.

So why did Leno decide to make his "goosing" allegations now?

I guess it's open season on the President.
