Yesterday, I commented on "Santorum reads nuke polls, applies the brakes," an article in The Hill.
I complained about the Republican pattern of backing down and their tendency to shy away from confrontation. Considering the RINOs, the ones who've made a career out of cozying up to the Democrats, it was troubling to me that Santorum appeared to be joining the ranks of that quasi-conservative bunch.
The uproar now appears misdirected. Santorum may have read the polls, but he did not apply the brakes.
Santorum put out this statement yesterday afternoon, to clarify his stance:
"My one motivation is to affirm the constitutional duty of all Senators to give advice and consent on the President's judicial nominations. That includes a vigorous debate ending in an up-or-down vote."
