LOOKING OUT FOR NUMBER ONE

According to Drudge, Hillary plans to support John Roberts.

Drudge writes:

Unless some unforeseen development occurs around Roberts, Clinton will throw her support behind confirmation, says a top source.

"Look, we're not thrilled President Bush is in office and gets to make these choices," said a top Hillary source, "but we have to make the best of the situation until the next election!"

With her support of Roberts, Clinton ignores pressure from the reactionary-activist wing of the Democrat party.

"She is simply doing what is right for the country, not MOVEON.ORG," the Clinton insider explained.

I nearly choked when I read that last quote.

If Hillary does vote for Roberts, it won't be because she's doing the right thing for the country. It's not that she is bravely ignoring pressure from the MoveOn nuts.

It will be part of her calculated effort to position herself for the presidency in 2008. She's confident that she has the support of the fringe Left sewed up. She needs to court moderates, independents, Middle America.

As usual, Hillary is doing what's best for Hillary.
