Is Oprah Mad at Louisiana Officials?

I would consider the magnitude of Governor Kathleen Blanco's mistakes in the Hurricane Katrina disaster to be a Category 5.

Hopefully, the people of Louisiana are organizing a recall effort at this moment.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco's Bureaucrats Blocked Food and Water

The Red Cross was reportedly ready to deliver food, water and other supplies to flood-ravaged refugees who were sweltering inside New Orleans' Superdome last week - but the relief was blocked by bureaucrats who worked for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco.

Fox News Channel's Major Garrett reported Wednesday that the Red Cross had "trucks with water, food, hygiene equipment, all sorts of things ready to go ... to the Superdome and Convention Center."

But the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security, Garrett said, "told them they could not go."

"The Red Cross tells me that Louisiana's Department of Homeland Security said, 'Look, we do not want to create a magnet for more people to come to the Superdome or Convention Center, we want to get them out,'" he explained.

"So at the same time local officials were screaming where is the food, where is the water, the Red Cross was standing by ready [and] the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security said you can't go."

I believe FEMA's response to the disaster should be scrutinized.

Unlike Nancy Pelosi, I think focus must also be placed on the state and local governments when determining what went wrong.

Yesterday, Pelosi was trying to score political points by bashing President Bush.

"He chose someone with absolutely no credentials," Pelosi said, referring to FEMA Director Michael Brown.

Pelosi characterized the President as "oblivious, in denial, dangerous."

I'd like to hear how Pelosi would rationalize Louisiana's Department of Homeland Security turning away aid from the Red Cross.

Louisiana officials contributed greatly to the suffering and the mayhem at the Superdome and Convention Center.

Disgraceful.

In the first of two shows devoted to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Oprah Winfrey said Tuesday that the nation owed an apology to the people who died in the streets of New Orleans and elsewhere, and to the survivors whose misery was compounded by a relief effort she termed so inadequate that it "makes me so mad."

"This makes me so mad. This should not have happened." And after hearing descriptions of people dying unattended in the streets, she said, "I think we all -- this country owes these people an apology."

Do you know what definitely should not have happened?

Red Cross trucks packed with "water, food, hygiene equipment, all sorts of things ready to go" should not have been turned away from the Superdome and Convention Center.

I wonder if billionairess Oprah has called Blanco to bitch her out about this.

Does Oprah reserve her rage only for the Bush administration?

If she does, she owes Bush an apology.
