Jane Fonda Trims Down Déjà Vu Tour

It looks like much of the country will have to wait to be treated to Hanoi Jane's anti-war vegetable oil-fueled bus tour.

For now, she has decided to pass the reins of the "cozying up to our enemies" movement to Cindy Sheehan, a worthy successor.

However, this doesn't mean that old Jane intends to be quiet about the war in Iraq.

Fonda had intended to make eight appearances with the radical George Galloway. That's been trimmed down to two.

WASHINGTON -- Hollywood actress Jane Fonda and fiery British politician George Galloway will join forces on a tour criticizing the U.S. military presence in Iraq.

The duo are to travel to eight U.S. cities starting later this month, joining in a chorus of critics of the George W Bush administration, blasting the president for the war and the slow start to the relief operation now underway in the Gulf region devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Chris Dols, an organizer of the tour, told the Washington Times newspaper: "Jane Fonda and George Galloway will point out how much money is being wasted on the war when it is needed to help people at home."

Galloway's speaking tour, "Stand Up and Be Counted," starts in Boston on Sept 13 and will end at a rally scheduled for Sept 24 in Washington, according to the report.

He also will be promoting a new book, "Mr Galloway Goes To Washington" while on tour.

Isn't it funny how the need to speak out on pressing matters always seems to coincide with promoting a new book?

Galloway and Fonda together--it's a Bush hater's dream come true.

Unfortunately for the Leftists, the tour has been trimmed down significantly.

Jane Fonda told Roger Friedman of FOX yesterday she's scrapped plans for the anti-war bus trip till next March. As well, Fonda will be making only two appearances this month on another rally with the controversial Galloway, not the eight that were widely misreported in the press yesterday.

Fonda will appear with Galloway in Madison, Wis., on Sept. 18 and in Chicago, Ill., on Sept 19.

Why the abrupt change in plans? Fonda, who is still very much against the war in Iraq, said that she didn't want to distract people from Cindy Sheehan's bus trip, already under way and gathering support.

...Fonda reportedly told Friedman that "what the right wing has done to Sheehan is despicable."

"I would be a distraction," she went on to say, "and the vacuum has been filled. That said, I plan to speak out and write some op-ed pieces but no bus tour."

At the time she announced that tour, I wondered if the March date was timed with the paperback release of her book. I don't know if that's the case, but it would make sense.
