Poll Results to Make Liberals Gag

Many times, I've said that I don't have much faith in the accuracy of polls. I haven't changed my opinion on that.

Nevertheless, since many do believe that polls are significant and give a true picture of what the public is thinking, let's take a look at the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey.

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey finds the public skeptical that New Orleans will ever completely recover from Hurricane Katrina, but also supportive of making the effort to rebuild the city. Even those who predict full recovery expect the process to take many years.

The poll also finds the public largely divided in its evaluation of the response by President George W. Bush and the federal government, though more people are critical than supportive of their efforts.

These are the opening paragraphs of the analysis of this new poll that Gallup gives to its website visitors.

From those first sentences, I expected the numbers to be very bad for Bush.

While it's true the public is divided about the federal response to Katrina, there is little blame being assigned to the President.

I find that to be absolutely stunning.

STUNNING!!!

Given the sort of anti-Bush coverage in the mainstream media, given the extreme condemnation by the Dems, and given all of the conservatives that shifted into CYA mode to criticize Bush's handling of the crisis, I find it amazing that the survey finds only 13% hold the President most responsible for the problems after Katrina.

Sep 5-6

Who do you think is MOST responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane -- [ROTATED: George W. Bush, federal agencies, (or) state and local officials], or is no one really to blame?

George W.Bush-------------13%

Federal agencies------------18%

State/local officials----------25%

No one to blame-------------38%

No opinion-------------------6%

To be honest, I'm floored by these findings.

I was sure that the non-stop bashing of Bush and federal agencies, coupled with all the horrifice images of death, destruction, and mayhem that were being fed to the public last week would result in most of the blame being placed on the President.

Liberals hoping to have scored political points from the disaster must be having fits right now.

Few Americans feel that any top official in the agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be dismissed from office -- just 29% say someone should be fired, while 63% disagree.

I'm heartened that this poll shows that Americans are not willing to be swayed by the propaganda of the Left.

Elected officials, the MSM, and lib pundits were so quick to point fingers.

Obviously, in a time of crisis, the public took a much more mature, balanced assessment of the situation than the Left and conservative critics were able to muster.
