Milwaukee Violence: 7-Year-Old Girl Shot

Another violent Milwaukee weekend begins--

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
A 7-year-old girl was shot this afternoon when a man opened fire on a vehicle on the north side, police said.

The girl was shot in the leg and taken by her parents to a local hospital, from where she was expected to be released, Lt. Thomas Welch of the Milwaukee Police Department's Criminal Investigation Bureau said.

According to Welch, the girl was in a vehicle that was stopped at N. 31st and W. Capitol Drive about 12:40 p.m. with her mother, her mother's boyfriend and three siblings, ages 8, 4 and 2.

A man with a gun approached and fired multiple shots into the vehicle, one of which struck the girl.

Police are searching for a black male, 20- to 25-years-old, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, with a slim build, light complexion and wearing a white T-shirt.

Was this a random shooting?

I doubt it.

It could have been a case of mistaken identity, but it's unlikely that the suspect just decided to fire multiple shots into a car.

If the suspect did target the people in the car for a reason, this shooting highlights how innocent children can become victims.

Think of children growing up in an environment where guns are used to solve disputes.

It is so utterly dysfunctional.

Four children were in that car. Thankfully, no one was killed.

Another thing--

The police are searching for a man "wearing a white T-shirt."

That wouldn't be odd, but it's JANUARY in Milwaukee.
