The speculation of earlier today was wrong:
According to Politico, John Edwards is putting his presidential bid on hold due to his wife's health.
Edwards is doing exactly what he should be doing by suspending his campaign.
Family comes first.
Speaking from a purely political standpoint, I don't think this really is much of a setback for Edwards' campaign.
He's well-known. It's not as if he has to get out on the campaign trail and work on name recognition.
His fund-raising will probably take a hit, but not much. It's not as if Edwards doesn't have a personal fortune from which to draw, at least temporarily, if he's able to focus on a presidential campaign again.
Furthermore, it would likely hurt Edwards politically for him to do anything but stay at his wife's side.
Also, it should be remembered that it's only March 2007.
My prayers are with Mrs. Edwards and her family.

Update:
That report was false.
Edwards is NOT suspending his campaign in spite of the fact that her illness has recurred.
The campaign goes on.
I don't think anyone should second guess or pass judgment on the decision of Edwards and his wife to go forward with business as usual as best they can.
Everyday, families receive similar news and they don't shut down.
They need to do what is right for them.
Again, my prayers are with the Edwards family.
